چکیده

This paper proposes a new interactive hybrid non-rigid registration framework that combines any intensity-based algorithm with a feature-based component, using an iterative dual energy minimization. The resulting transformation combines both intensity-based and featurebased deformation fields. The feature matching exploits user-placed landmark pairs, and based on saliency and similarity measures, optimizes the correspondences in the neighborhood of each landmark. A dense feature-based deformation field is then generated using a thin-plate spline interpolation. Additionally, the framework allows user interactivity for live guidance of the algorithm in case of errors or inaccuracies. We present three experimental results of our hybrid approach on lung, pelvis and brain datasets, and show that in each case, the registration benefited from the hybrid approach as opposed to its intensity component alone.

A Novel Subsampling Method for 3D Multimodality Medical Image Registration Based on Mutual Information

Mutual information (MI) is a widely used similarity metric for multimodality image registration. However, it involves an extremely high computational time especially when it is applied to volume images. Moreover, its robustness is affected by existence of local maxima. The multi-resolution pyramid approaches have been proposed to speed up the registration process and increase the accuracy of th...

Landmark-Based Registration Using Features Identified Through Differential Geometry

Registration of 3D medical images consists in computing the “best” transformation between two acquisitions, or equivalently, determines the point to point correspondence between the images. Registration algorithms are usually based either on features extracted from the image (feature-based approaches) or on the optimization of a similarity measure of the images intensities (intensity-based or i...

Non-rigid registration of medical images based on estimation of deformation states.

A unified framework for automatic non-rigid 3D-3D and 3D-2D registration of medical images with static and dynamic deformations is proposed in this paper. The problem of non-rigid image registration is approached as a classical state estimation problem using a generic deformation model for the soft tissue. The registration technique employs a dynamic linear elastic continuum mechanics model of ...

Non-rigid registration between 3D ultrasound and CT images of the liver based on intensity and gradient information.

In order to utilize both ultrasound (US) and computed tomography (CT) images of the liver concurrently for medical applications such as diagnosis and image-guided intervention, non-rigid registration between these two types of images is an essential step, as local deformation between US and CT images exists due to the different respiratory phases involved and due to the probe pressure that occu...

SIFT and shape information incorporated into fluid model for non-rigid registration of ultrasound images

Non-rigid registration of ultrasound images takes an important role in image-guided radiotherapy and surgery. Intensity-based method is popular in non-rigid registration, but it is sensitive to intensity variations and has problems with matching small structure features for the existence of speckles in ultrasound images. In this paper, we develop a new algorithm integrating the intensity and fe...
